Our mission is to offer opportunities for encouragement through educational, networking and social activities for people with both vision and hearing impairments and their families.
Sight And Sound Impaired of St. Louis
(SASISTL or SASI) is a social networking group for people who have both Deafness and Blindness and can meet others like themselves and feel like they "fit in". We are very casual, comfortable and fun group. We encourage family members to come, too. We welcome volunteers who would like to help by assisting as "eyes" and "ears" as needed.
"Once I knew only darkness and stillness...my life was without past or future...but a little word from the fingers of another fell into my hand that clutched at emptiness, and my heart leaped to the rapture of living".
"It is a terrible thing to see and have no vision".
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
Deaf/Blind is a general term used to describe people dealing with BOTH hearing loss and vision loss. This dual sensory loss compounds the issues of everything in a person's life. This does not mean that all with hearing and vision loss are totally Deaf or totally Blind. There is such a wide range of variations of deafness and blindness. Some can be totally Deaf with low vision or totally blind. Or hard of hearing with low vision or total blind.
